The Packers are 3-0. The Cowboys are 3-0. Even the 49ers are 2-1. The Patriots are the best team in the AFC. Brett Favre is throwing the ball all over the field. To top it off, the Bears and the Vikings both look mediocre right now. Yeah I know, it's very early in the season to make comparisons, but yesterday's win was one of the most satisfying since beating the Patriots 10 years ago (I'm still going with that overtime playoff victory against the Seahawks.) The victory came against one of the better teams in the league and allowed us to open a two game lead on the Bears very early in the season. Don't look at San Diego's record and judge them solely on that. They opened the season against a team that made the Super Bowl last season, on the road against a team who's supposed to win the Super Bowl this season, and on the road against a rejuventated Packers squad that was already 2-0. After three games against divisioal foes, the Chargers will be 4-2 heading into their own bye week.
Looking ahead for the Packers, the next three games are against the Vikings, Bears, and Redskins, who are a combined 3-5. Minnesota usually plays well against the Packers in the dome, the last couple seasons nonwithstanding, and the Bears game won't be a cakewalk; but if the Packers perform at the same level as they did on Sunday against San Diego, it'll be difficult for Jackson/Holcomb/Bollinger or Grossman/Griese/Orton to leave the field with a victory. The Packers should be no worse than 5-1 heading into their bye week and are three consistent games away from being 6-0. I think anyone would gladly have taken that before the season started.
The Pack is back.
