Sports Illustrated named its 2007 Sportsman of the Year: Packer quarterback Brett Favre.    The award is a first for the legendary Q Favre with only four quarterbacks ever to receive the award in its history. Favre, the "old man" leader of the Pack at age 38, is having one of his best seasons with the Packers.  SI chose Favre because he has lead a resurgent Packer team back to its "glory days" at the top of the NFL with a successful 10-2 record into the coming playoffs, because of his "Ripkenesque" streak of consecutive games played in the NFL, & because of his history of philanthropy.   SI Writer Shipnuck says:

"It is for his perseverance and his passion that SI honors Favre with the 54th Sportsman of the Year award. But there is more to his story than on-field heroics. On game day the whole of Green Bay may live and die on Favre's rocket right arm, but his greatest legacy lies in how many people he has touched between Sundays."

SI Group Editor McDonell says: "Brett is a great winner, but this award recognizes much more than winning. It recognizes performance off the field equally and celebrates the love of the game. Brett is having an astounding year on every level."  For Favre, it's a great recognition in what may be his final memorial NFL season.  All good things....
